Orthosilicic acid (H4SiO4) is a water-soluble chemical. In the process of the watering plant, orthosilicic acid can be absorbed by plants along with other nutrients. After the water evaporates from soil, excess orthosilicic acid will solidify into quartz on the plant surface to act as a protective barrier against aphids, insect larvae, molds, and parasitic nematodes
